Museum of Architecture and Design, Helsinki

Our entry for the Museum of Architecture and Design, evaluated as upper class by the international jury.

A warm and inviting building in light brick and timber, composed of five intersecting gallery volumes that offer places to linger and enjoy the views.

The design resembles shoreline boulders rising from the sea through land uplift, symbolizing the continuous emerge of new ideas, design, and architecture.

The terraced form makes the entire building, including the roofs, accessible to visitors.  The park slopes up to meet the main level, connecting the galleries with the city.

All exhibition spaces are located on the same floor, close to the café and library. The galleries are arranged as an open landscape that can be combined in countless ways for varied and engaging exhibitions.
